In Barbados the Christine Charity is a non-profit organization run by Alga Lopes Seales. This charity responds to the needs of the underprivileged kids and the elderly. Caribbean Heritage Association, Inc. is please to be able to supply yearly donations to this cause. On several visits to Barbados we were taken on tours to some of the people who are being helped, it was a sobering, and hart felt experience. It motivated us even more to assist in this worthy cause.
In addition, Caribbean Heritage Association, Inc. (CHA) has taken the initiative to seek out Elementary Schools in Barbados to support. This got started through a discussion with our group, who was brainstorming on different projects we could under take. One of our members related a story of a conversation with an elementary teacher who was expressing her thoughts of the shortness of schools supplies to do her projects. We thought it was an aspiring story and decided to do something about it. So far, we have assisted two of the elementary schools Chalky Mount and Hindsbury.
In Boston, we also wanted to do our part in supporting charitable organizations. We have chosen the Pine Street Inn for the homeless; Rosie’s Place, which is a home for battered women, Project Hope, is a home for disenfranchised kids and families. This is a terrific organization where you can select a family to assist during the holidays. We chose a family and a list was submitted with the different requested items from the family. Some of the members of our group went out, did the shopping, and presented the items to the family who was very appreciative at the gesture. The St. Cyprians Church is one of the oldest Episcopalian churches in Boston, which was started by a group West Indians in the thirties and forties. This church is still very vibrant in the city of Boston today and is attended by most of CHA’s members and friends.
As a non-profit organization, CHA has also supported many individuals who were in need of assistance. These individuals though working very hard still find it very difficult striving to meet their obligations and needed some assistance. We were please to be able to assist in a time of need. |
